Students experience various forms and degrees of trauma as a result of death, illness, crisis, and loss, often affecting behavioral, social-emotional and academic growth, which can lead to harmful behaviors if unrecognized and untreated. Through scenario-based examples and activities, participants will learn how to identify traumatic events, experience, and effects. A trauma-informed approach within a multi-tiered system of support will be described, and specific examples and resources will be provided in order to apply the concepts learned.

Canva is a robust yet easy-to-use tool that staff can use to create flyers, calendars, videos, presentations and so much more! Come to learn how to create your Canva for Education account and see a demonstration of how to produce some frequently needed documents. You do not need to have any graphic design experience…Canva is very easy to use for all skill levels! NOTE: If you attended this session in 2023, there will be some new and additional information and tips shared (including many of Canva's newer "magic" tools) and this year we are adding information about the Pixlr photo editor. **Participants need to bring a laptop….magic wand is optional :-).
Create and use a Flippity online board game to engage your students during content reviews. Customize your electronic deck of cards with Q&A specific to your instruction. Questions may be short answer, true/false, or multiple-choice format. Design your board to include images, video clips, web links, Google Drawings, EquatiO equations, or Desmos links. Choose the number of board spaces on your game board and the colors. Participants should bring (1) some review content in their subject areas and (2) their laptops. This session will introduce their website resources and student history fair Virginia History Day, as well as model their popular “You Be the Curator” activity – a lesson that works with all secondary school subjects, and encourages students to step into the role of a museum curator by working with objects to craft an exhibit theme and title.

Canva is a robust yet easy-to-use tool that staff can use to create flyers, calendars, videos, presentations and so much more! Come to learn how to create your Canva for Education account and see a demonstration of how to produce some frequently needed documents. You do not need to have any graphic design experience…Canva is very easy to use for all skill levels! NOTE: If you attended this session in 2023, there will be some new and additional information and tips shared (including many of Canva's newer "magic" tools) and this year we are adding information about the Pixlr photo editor. **Participants need to bring a laptop….magic wand is optional :-).
We will be creating Quizzes in Google Sheets that will gradually display a simple picture as students correctly enter answers. We will all start with a blank template and begin work together with the goal being to create a shared library of varying Google Sheets Picture Quizzes. Laptops with access to the Google Drive will be required.
